Interim Deputy Director of IT Operations & Service Design

Location: Glasgow - 3 days on-site (non-negotiable)

Duration: 12 months (with extension potential)

Day Rate: up to c£850/day

Security Clearance: Active SC preferred / DV a bonus

Scale: Senior Operational Leadership / Director equivalent

The Challenge

Lead the live service operation underpinning a highly critical, secure enterprise digital platform. As this critical network undergoes a massive transformation, you will steady the day-to-day "run" of live services while actively capturing operational insights to help shape tomorrow's new service operating model.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Head of Function, you will hold full strategic and day-to-day delegated authority over a broad, multi-disciplinary portfolio. This is not a traditional ITIL process-mapping contract. You will step up as an executive-level deputy, driving organisational maturity across:

• Live Service Operations: Overseeing the Service Desk, major incident governance, problem management, and asset tracking.

• Relationship Management & Growth: Professionalising stakeholder engagement and maturing the business development demand pipeline across multiple partner organisations.

• Data Analytics & Insights: Ensuring live-service data and user research systematically drive future system design and business case decisions.

What We Are Looking For

We are bypassing traditional Service Delivery Managers for this brief. We need a heavy-hitting, visible operational leader who can confidently command a room of senior executives and enterprise stakeholders.

• Proven Leadership: Substantive experience at Head of / Director level leading IT Operations, Live Service Delivery, or Managed Services within highly complex environments.

• Beyond ITIL: A track record that extends beyond pure ITSM into relationship management, commercial demand forecasting, and data analytics.

• Transformation Navigators: The ability to keep a team stable, confident, and performing at pace during a period of major organisational transition.

• Sector Context: Prior experience within Central Government, Defence, Critical National Infrastructure (CNI), or highly regulated environments is highly desirable.
