Court of Protection (Welfare) Solicitor - 1+ PQE | Whitechapel / Clapham Junction | Legal Aid & Private Work
A well-established, highly regarded London law firm is seeking a Court of Protection (Welfare) Solicitor to join their award-winning Social Welfare team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a solicitor with at least one year post-qualification experience who wants to specialise in Court of Protection (Welfare) work while also gaining exposure to related areas such as community care, public law, and housing if desired.
The Social Welfare team is widely recognised for its expertise, delivering high-quality advice and representation for both legal aid and privately funded clients. You will primarily act for protected parties via litigation friends, including professional litigation friends, such as the Official Solicitor, and in some cases directly for family members. The team is supportive, collaborative, and focused on staff development, with a structured career development programme and ongoing training opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:

Managing a full caseload of Court of Protection (Welfare) matters efficiently and proactively

Advising clients and acting in their best interests, including liaising with litigation friends or family members

Advocacy and representation in Court of Protection hearings

Ensuring compliance with legal aid funding requirements and accurate case billing

Supervising junior staff or reporting to supervisors where appropriate

Keeping up to date with developments in Court of Protection, social welfare, and legal aid law
Skills & Experience:
-
At least 1 year post-qualification experience in Court of Protection (Welfare) work

Experience acting for protected parties via litigation friends or family members

Familiarity with Legal Aid funding and CCMS systems, alongside privately funded work

Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to build rapport with vulnerable clients

Excellent organisation, prioritisation, and problem-solving abilities

Current Practising Certificate and commitment to access to justice
