About this role
Associate/Senior Associate, Medical Negligence - London
If you're an experienced clinical negligence lawyer who enjoys working on complex, meaningful cases and you're looking for a role where your judgment is trusted and your voice actually matters, this could be a great fit.
This opportunity sits within a highly respected national healthcare team, but the day-to-day experience is very human: approachable partners, a collaborative culture, and the freedom to shape your work in a way that reflects your strengths.
The Role
As a senior member of the team, you'll have the autonomy to run a sophisticated, often high-value caseload for NHS Resolution. You'll be handling maximum-severity matters, multi-expert cases, and disputes that require genuine strategic thinking not just process management.
You'll also have space to step into more of a leadership role. That includes:
- Guiding junior lawyers and being a sounding board for their complex files.
- Taking the lead on early case assessment, liability strategy, and risk analysis.
- Shaping client reporting frameworks and improving how the team collaborates with NHS bodies.
- Running case strategy meetings, scoping expert evidence needs, and influencing settlement approach.
- Getting involved in wider healthcare risk projects such as claims trend analysis, learning-from-events reviews, or cross-practice initiatives around patient safety.
You'll still have support where you want it, but the expectation is that you're comfortable owning your decisions and helping steer the direction of larger matters.
We're Looking For
You'll thrive here if you're already confident in clinical negligence litigation (defendant ideally, but claimant lawyers with the right mindset also succeed). What really matters is:
- Strong strategic instincts alongside technical ability.
- The confidence to work with senior NHS stakeholders.
- A collaborative, grounded approach to working with colleagues at all levels.
- An interest in not just running cases, but shaping how high-profile healthcare clients manage litigation as a whole.
If you're the kind of professional who enjoys being trusted with meaningful responsibility, you'll feel valued here.
What's In It For You
- Real autonomy, you won't be micromanaged.
- A visible leadership path, with support to move toward more senior responsibilities or partnership.
- Access to sophisticated litigation: catastrophic injury cases, multi-party matters, inquests, and emerging healthcare issues.
- Collaborative senior colleagues who genuinely want to share strategy, not just delegate tasks.
- Hybrid working and London-based flexibility, with a compensation package reflecting your seniority and expertise.
It's the kind of environment where experienced lawyers don't get lost in hierarchy, they're given room to grow.
Next Steps
I'd love to talk you through the team, the partner you'll be working with, and the types of cases currently underway.
If you're an experienced Clinical Negligence Associate or Senior Associate looking for more autonomy, influence, and progression, you're very welcome to reach out for a confidential conversation.
