A Legal 500 recommended law firm with a strong and long-standing reputation for legal excellence across Essex is looking to recruit an experienced and compassionate Family Solicitor to join its respected and growing Family team based in Colchester.

The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated legal professional to join a high-performing team and manage a diverse caseload covering all aspects of family law. The role involves working with clients through often sensitive and complex legal issues, while upholding the firm's reputation for quality and care.
The Family team continues to grow, and this position presents a chance to contribute to the department's ongoing success and strategic development.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a varied caseload including:
- Divorce and separation
- Financial settlements
- Private children matters
- Pre- and post-nuptial agreements
- Cohabitation disputes
- Domestic abuse cases
- Providing clear, practical legal advice to clients
- Handling matters with empathy and professionalism
- Representing clients at court and managing all associated documentation
- Supporting the continued growth of the Family department
- Participating in business development, marketing, and community engagement activities
Candidate Profile
Essential:
- Qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive (minimum 3 years PQE preferred)
- Strong and broad knowledge of family law
- Excellent communication, client care, and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage a caseload independently with minimal supervision
- A proactive, professional, and collaborative approach
- Committed to developing strong client and professional relationships
Desirable:
- Resolution membership
- Experience in mediation or collaborative law
The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of empathy, commercial awareness, and a genuine passion for family law and client care.
