Henderson Scott Finance and Accounting are recruiting for an ambitious Financial Controller that is ready to step into a leadership role with clear progression to senior leadership.
We're partnering with a private equity-backed SME based in South Birmingham that has experienced consistent year-on-year growth. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing finance function in a business that values ambition, commercial acumen, and leadership potential.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you'll work closely with the Finance Director (FD) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), receiving hands-on mentorship to fast track your development. You'll take ownership of day-to-day financial operations while playing a key role in strategic decision making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes
- Develop and manage a small, high-performing finance team
- Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting
- Build and improve financial models to support forecasting and business planning
- Ensure technical compliance (IFRS/UK GAAP)
- Support M&A and investment activity as part of the wider PE strategy
What We're Looking For:
- Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with strong technical grounding
- Experience in an SME or PE-backed environment preferred
- Strong financial modelling and Excel skills
- Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop a team
- Commercial mindset and eagerness to grow
Salary
£70,000 - £75,000 plus benefits
5 days on site with flexibility
