Site Reliability Engineer - DevOps - RHEL - Public Sector - outside IR35 - Edinburgh (Hybrid)

I am wokring with a busy public sector client in Edinburgh who are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to help develop and maintain a resilient cloud-based digital platform.

You will be involved with

• Support the migration of systems to RHEL 8/9
• Improve infrastructure automation and resilience processes
• Manage and maintain Linux-based platforms and associated tooling
• Implement and maintain observability solutions and monitoring frameworks
• Assist with the setup and maintenance of AWS environments using infrastructure as code
• Provide technical input to improve deployment pipelines and operational efficiency

I am therefore keen to speak with candidates who have

• A background in Linux system administration (RHEL 7/8/9) and scripting (Bash, Perl)
• Hands-on experience with containerisation technologies and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
• Solid understanding of automation using Ansible and infrastructure as code practices
• Familiar with CI/CD practices, version control systems, and automated deployment pipelines
• Practical knowledge of monitoring solutions such as Prometheus, Grafana, and time-series databases
• Comfortable working in Agile teams and adapting to change

Desirable:

• Experience with backup solutions, virtualisation (KVM), and scripting in Python
• Familiarity with database technologies including Oracle and MongoDB
• Understanding of cloud-native security and architectural best practices

Due to the nature of the role, flexibility is expected to be available for some ad hoc out-of-hours support and participation in scheduled disaster recovery testing.
