About this role

Position Available: Principal Stress Engineer

Location: Hertfordshire

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 (DoE) + Benefits

Experience needed: We're looking for senior-level structural analysts with a proven track record in delivering complex mechanical analysis packages. You'll be confident in both classical hand calculations and CAE tools, and capable of guiding design solutions across multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

About the role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Stress Engineer to lead structural and thermal analysis activities on a next-generation complex defence system. This role is vital to ensuring the integrity and performance of mechanical solutions, from early-stage concept through to in-service support.

Working collaboratively with mechanical, systems, and design engineers, you'll lead structural design validation, using a broad range of techniques from static and dynamic stress analysis to impact modelling and fatigue assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, estimate, and deliver mechanical analysis work packages throughout the product lifecycle
  • Perform structural assessments using classical hand calculations and CAE tools (Hyperworks highly desirable)
  • Interpret results to influence design decisions and verify mechanical performance
  • Lead or contribute to technical reviews, presenting findings to stakeholders across functions
  • Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge sharing across the team
  • Drive improvements to methods, tools, and processes within the mechanical analysis capability
  • Collaborate across departments including Design, Systems, and Manufacturing
  • Support test planning and qualification activities including fault investigation and load derivation

What we need from you:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong technical background in structural analysis within a complex engineering environment
  • Proven ability to deliver technical work packages independently and on time
  • Effective communicator with experience preparing detailed technical reports and presenting to senior stakeholders
  • Passion for mentoring, improving processes, and working across disciplines
