Head of Residential Conveyancing - Leading Law Firm (South & East London)

Location: Morden (SM4) and/or Wanstead (E11)
Job Type: Full-time or Part-time (20 to 35 hours per week)

The Opportunity


Henderson Scott is proud to be working in partnership with a well-established and forward-thinking law firm to recruit a Head of Residential Conveyancing to lead its thriving property department across dual office locations in South and East London.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced conveyancer or solicitor to join a dynamic legal practice with a loyal client base and a strong reputation in residential property law. You'll play a key leadership role while maintaining a hands-on approach with your own caseload.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Residential Conveyancing Department across two office locations
  • Supervise a team of conveyancers and support staff, ensuring high standards of legal work and client service
  • Manage a caseload involving sales, purchases, re-mortgages, new builds, lease extensions, shared ownership, Help to Buy and unregistered properties
  • Ensure legal compliance and best practice across all files
  • Identify and lead on business development initiatives, building strong client and referrer relationships
  • Report to senior management on departmental performance and development
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Private Client where needed

Candidate Profile


The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced, motivated, and client-focused legal professional who meets the following criteria:

  • Minimum 5 years' PQE (or equivalent) in Residential Conveyancing
  • Strong technical knowledge of residential property law and procedures
  • Proven leadership experience within a conveyancing team or department
  • Confident in handling a varied caseload with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commercially aware and proactive in business development
  • Competent with legal software (LEAP experience is an advantage)
  • Professional, approachable, and a strong team player
