Henderson Scott Finance and Accounting are recruiting for a Financial Controller to join an engineering and manufacturing business based in South Birmingham.

This is a No2 role to the FD, and will be part of the senior finance team (progressing to FD).

This role is ideal for a Finance Manager who is looking for the next step in their career to a FC, or a FC who is looking for a side step to be promoted into a FD in the near future.

The role has the perfect blend of commercial and strategic visibility, systems, and leadership. There is a requirement to hire a professional with all rounded financial and management accounting skills from a manufacturing industry.

The ideal candidate will bring strong manufacturing finance experience, excellent systems capability, and a proactive approach to automation and process optimisation. Accounting qualifications are welcome but not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead statutory & management accounts, forecasting, and audit preparation
• Strengthen financial controls and ensure accurate month-end / year-end reporting
• Partner closely with senior management, providing clear financial insight
• Oversee manufacturing finance: costing, variances, stock reporting, and KPIs
• Drive process improvements and support system & automation enhancements
• Build strong cross-functional relationships across engineering and operations
• Mentor and support junior members of the finance team

Ideal Candidate:

• Solid manufacturing finance experience
• Strong systems skills and interest in automation
• Excellent communication skills with senior stakeholder exposure
• Hands-on approach with a continuous improvement mindset
• Qualification ACCA, CIMA or ACA desirable but not essential

Salary: £75,000 plus bonus

Based in Office (1 day from home)
