About this role

A leading international law firm's Litigation & Regulatory group is seeking a talented Competition Law Associate (Litigation Focus) to join its highly regarded London-based Competition team. The group is one of the largest and most respected practices globally, advising clients in high-stakes disputes, regulatory investigations, and risk management matters across diverse industries.

The Competition practice is ranked among the best in the market for its depth and expertise. While the team has a strong track record in merger control, investigations, and advisory work, it is now expanding its competition litigation offering, with particular growth in follow-on damages claims and class actions.

Role Overview
You will work on a broad range of high-profile competition matters, spanning:

  • Competition litigation, including class actions and follow-on damages claims

  • UK and EU merger control and FDI filings

  • CMA and European Commission investigations

  • Cartel enforcement and compliance advisory

  • Regulatory compliance and consumer protection issues

The team is especially active in the pharmaceutical and sports sectors but works across multiple industries. This role offers regular collaboration with colleagues in other jurisdictions and, where relevant, client site visits both in the UK and overseas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on UK and EU competition law across a variety of sectors.

  • Act on competition litigation matters, including before the Competition Appeal Tribunal and High Court.

  • Assist clients in navigating CMA/European Commission investigations, dawn raids, and responses to information requests.

  • Advise on mergers and acquisitions, including competition risk analysis and merger/FDI filings.

  • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements with competition law considerations.

  • Work closely with colleagues internationally to deliver seamless, cross-border solutions.

  • Engage directly with clients, manage relationships, and contribute to business development initiatives.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified solicitor, ideally in England & Wales or a Commonwealth jurisdiction.

  • 2-5 years' PQE (indicative) with strong competition law experience, particularly in contentious matters.

  • Solid understanding of UK and EU competition law in a commercial context.

  • Experience advising on cross-border matters and working with international clients.

  • Excellent drafting skills and a commercially minded approach.

  • Strong relationship management and business development skills.

  • Collaborative, proactive, and confident in high-pressure situations.
