About this role

Are you a Clinical Negligence litigator ready for a step up?

We are partnering with a highly regarded law firm to appoint a Senior Associate to its Clinical Negligence department. The team is ranked in Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500, and includes lawyers accredited by Action Against Medical Accidents and the Law Society. With a long track record of securing maximum compensation across all fields of medicine, our client offers high-quality, complex work and close collaboration with Partners.

If you are seeking real responsibility, sophisticated cases and a supportive, collegiate culture, this could be an excellent move.

The Role:

  • Lead complex claimant matters (approximately 80% clinical negligence / 20% personal injury): Advise on high-value clinical negligence and personal injury claims from first instruction to resolution.
  • Own litigation strategy: Manage liability, causation and quantum; comply with the Civil Procedure Rules, Pre-Action Protocols, funding arrangements and limitation requirements; prepare pleadings and evidence; instruct experts and brief counsel.
  • Supervision and delegation: Manage junior lawyers, paralegals and trainees with clear guidance and robust quality control.
  • Client care and advocacy: Attend client meetings, conferences with counsel, mediations and settlement meetings; deliver clear, empathetic and practical advice.
  • Knowledge and research: Investigate legal and medical issues using databases, textbooks and journals; maintain precedents and team know-how.
  • Case and document management: Drive efficient file progression, accurate records, costs management and billing discipline.
  • Grow the practice: Contribute to marketing, seminars and profile-raising; maintain existing referrers and develop new sources of work.

About You:

  • Claimant Specialist (4-8 PQE): Significant experience running complex clinical negligence cases, with solid experience of personal injury claims.
  • Strategic litigator: Strong judgement on liability and causation; confident with expert evidence, schedules of loss and settlement tactics.
  • Leader and mentor: Comfortable supervising and developing junior colleagues.
  • Client-first communicator: Empathetic, clear and solutions-focused.
  • Business development minded: Proactive in networking and nurturing referrer relationships.
  • Process and compliance focused: Meticulous on procedure, funding, costs and limitation.

Benefits & Working Pattern:

  • Hours: 9:30 am to 5:30 pm (and as required).
  • Working week: Monday to Friday.
  • Package: Competitive salary, performance-related bonus and pension plan.
  • Leave: Generous annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Development: Ranked, accredited team with regular training and a clear progression path.
  • Culture: Inclusive, supportive environment with team social events and well being initiatives.
