About this role

International Arbitration Partner - Energy

London | Confidential Search | International Law Firm

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for an established International Arbitration Partner with a strong focus on the energy sector to join a highly regarded international law firm.

The firm is looking to strengthen its international disputes capability through the appointment of a commercially successful Partner with a demonstrable track record in complex, high-value international arbitration and an established, portable book of business.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Partner looking to leverage an established international platform, access a sophisticated global client base and play a significant role in the continued development of the firm's international arbitration and energy disputes practices.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will benefit from:

  • Established international platform: Joining a well-established international law firm with a strong cross-border presence and access to an extensive international network.
  • Energy sector focus: The opportunity to develop and expand a significant international arbitration practice focused on the global energy sector.
  • Portable practice: The firm is particularly interested in Partners with a meaningful and demonstrable book of business who can transfer existing client relationships and generate substantial additional work.
  • High-value disputes: Exposure to complex, high-profile international arbitrations involving major commercial and energy sector clients.
  • Strategic growth: The opportunity to play a key role in expanding the firm's international arbitration offering and strengthening its position in the energy disputes market.
  • Attractive financial proposition: A competitive Partner remuneration package reflecting the candidate's existing practice, client following and potential contribution to the firm's growth.

Sector and Practice Focus

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in international arbitration arising from the energy and natural resources sectors, potentially including:

  • Oil and gas disputes.
  • Energy infrastructure and major projects.
  • Power generation and electricity disputes.
  • Renewable energy and energy transition.
  • Construction and engineering disputes.
  • Joint venture and shareholder disputes.
  • Energy trading and commodity disputes.
  • Investment treaty arbitration and investor-state disputes.
  • Cross-border contractual and commercial disputes.

Experience across institutional arbitration frameworks, including ICC, LCIA, SIAC and other leading arbitral institutions, would be advantageous.

The Ideal Candidate

We are keen to hear from established International Arbitration Partners who:

  • Have a strong reputation in international arbitration, particularly within the energy sector.
  • Have extensive experience handling complex, high-value and cross-border disputes.
  • Bring a meaningful and portable book of business with an established client following.
  • Have strong relationships with energy companies, international contractors, investors, national oil companies, utilities or other major industry participants.
  • Have a demonstrable track record of originating and developing profitable disputes work.
  • Are commercially minded and interested in contributing to the strategic development of an international arbitration practice.
  • Have the ambition to further develop their practice within a well-resourced international law firm.

The Proposition

The combination of an established international network, a strong sector focus, sophisticated cross-border work and an attractive financial proposition makes this a particularly interesting opportunity for a Partner with a meaningful portable practice.
