AI Engineer - OCR - LLM - Document Automation - 6 month contract - outside IR35
I have an immediate opportunity for an AI Engineer to develop large-scale document automation and intelligent data processing capabilities for our client in Edinburgh. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how advanced machine learning is applied, using the latest techniques in computer vision and natural language processing.
You will be part of a growing engineering team focused on designing, building, and improving services that process high volumes of complex documents. The work combines practical software development with research into emerging AI methods, ensuring that solutions are both reliable in production and deliver market leading innovation.
Work will include:
- Developing AI-driven services that automate document analysis and classification.
- Applying machine learning techniques to unstructured text and scanned materials.
- Building and supporting production systems in a modern cloud environment.
- Contributing to the team's technical direction, mentoring colleagues, and promoting high-quality engineering practices.
- Exploring new approaches in OCR, language models, and computer vision to extend the scope of automation.
I am keen to speak with candidates who have
- Experience with OCR, Object Detection and Large Language Models
- Experience of applying AI/ML to real-world problems, ideally with exposure to document processing, language models, or computer vision.
- Strong Python skills and familiarity with modern ML frameworks.
- Experience of cloud-native development (AWS preferred) and containerised deployments.
- An interest in balancing hands-on engineering with research and experimentation.
- Enthusiasm for sharing knowledge with the wider community and working closely with cross-functional teams
The role is based in Edinburgh and will require some flexibility to work onsite for workshops, planning sessions, team meetings, etc.
