Microsoft announced this week at its Ignite conference that it will introduce Office 2019 as soon as summer 2018. The suite will include entirely new versions of Excel and PowerPoint with more emphasis being put on touchscreen devices with the ability to draw over the top of different document types.
Office 2019 comes with a new (old) licensing model allowing users who don’t want to subscribe to the ever-updating service systems of Office365 meaning this is the first major standalone release in almost 3 years!
"Office 2019 will be a valuable upgrade for customers who feel that they need to keep some or all of their apps and servers on-premises," Microsoft said
Previously Microsoft has been seen to be pushing the software-as-a-service platform but this has shown that it’s not quite done with the perpetual licensing model just yet which shows that it is listening to its customers who still want to buy once and own it for a lifetime.
